With very few exceptions, all of the large paintings have their beginnings outside, either through an on the site oil sketch, or if that isn't possible, with a pencil drawing with some colour notations. These on site works then either can work as stand alone pieces, or might be worked into oil studies (based on pencil drawings) or larger canvases. Below are some basic examples of various processes and examples of the iterative process that some of the works can take.
